Asmech Systems were extremely honored to welcome two students for work experience at their headquarters in Mansfield recently. Jack Henshaw who attends school at Elizabethan Academy, Retford and Connor Davis who attends at Shirebrook Academy, Derbyshire. Both year 10 students spent two weeks with us performing many different tasks. Gaining an insight into the many areas of the engineering work that takes place at Asmech. Both Jack and Connor have a real interest in engineering and how things work the way that they do. It was fantastic that they chose Asmech Systems as their placement for work experience.
Some of the work that they were tasked with included; Drilling holes, cleaning welds, insight into electrical and automation, involvement in daily meetings that take place at Asmech and finally, conversing with some of our current apprentices who were able to show them what to expect at college/NVQ level if they were to pursue an engineering apprenticeship and a career in the industry.
One main experience that both Jack and Connor had whilst at Asmech was shadowing our current engineers and being put to the task with the day to day work that our engineers complete. This involved General shop build which could comprise of conveyor, bagger, de-bagger and elevator, all tasks that are very familiar to our engineers who were superb in showing Jack and Connor the ropes. Alongside this the students also had to gain an understanding of both Design and Quotation, the real nitty gritty stuff of the business, an understanding that Connor and Jack grasped effortlessly.
Feedback from Work Experience Student
It was brilliant to receive some feedback from Connor on his two-week experience with us at Asmech Systems:
“Thank you to you all for having me for the two weeks. I enjoyed the work experience and got a fair few stories and skills from it too. Asmech allowed me to see both sides of engineering (office and workshop). I had a better opportunity of getting the experience and insight from my two weeks, which I did acquire. My time here has also given me a better idea of what I may want to do in the future.”
Being able to show Conor and Jack around our headquarters and give them advice into what an engineer at Asmech does was fantastic. It was an experience that we also thoroughly enjoyed. We hope that they went away with new ideas and some food for thought about their futures.
